Goals

CHALLENGE: Use ambitious culturally relevant instruction, teacher collaboration and effective leadership to grow student’s learning beyond their expected academic trajectory.
ARTICULATE: Implement a framework for K-14 programming that leads to high school and college readiness.
ENGAGE: Increase digital literacy and teach using 21st century digital tools and applied/partnership opportunities.
SUPPORT: Involve families and provide individualized interventions to raise healthy students in a safe, culturally inclusive environment.
INVOLVE: Connect students with adults and their school through increased participation in extra-curricular activities.
BUILD: Improve the physical learning environment using fiscally responsible and sustainable practices.

Exceptional faculty

D219 was the first district in the state of Illinois to offer every student an individualized learning plan or ILP. Student ILPs allow teachers, parents and student support personnel throughout the District to make data-driven decisions tailored to each student’s needs.
More than 20 members of the D219 faculty are National Board Certified.
Our exceptional faculty has received national and state awards. Numerous organizations have recognized D219 staff, including: Illinois State Board of Education, Golden Apple Foundation, American Association of Physics Teachers, Journalism Education Association, Illinois Science Teachers Association, Illinois Theatre Association, American Women in Science, and more.
In 2007 D219 received the prestigious Kennedy Center Award for the Performing Arts. The faculty has maintained one of the most recognized fine and performing arts education programs in the nation.
D219 athletic coaches, club sponsors, and teachers from across the curriculum collaborate to balance extracurricular and academic goals for students who succeed at the highest levels of their competitions.
Racial equity reviews, broad-based diversity programs and world-class language and culture programs highlight the District’s commitment to serving a culturally-rich community.
