AVID Application and Course Overview

The AVID application process opens in November:

  1. The application is open to current 8th grade students. Please complete this form to apply to the AVID program.

  2. AVID staff members will review all submissions and select qualifying students for an interview. Students who are selected for an interview will receive an email with their scheduled date, time, and location (the interviews will be held at the student's school during the school day).
  3. Final decisions will be made in January. Students who are selected for the AVID program will be notified via email. 
  4. Registration for AVID courses will begin in February.

AVID courses focus on developing skills in writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading.

Classes include:

  • ACT prep and study skills
  • College field trips
  • Focused note-taking
  • Grade monitoring and organization checks
  • Guest speakers
  • Study groups with college tutors
  • Team building activities

9th Grade

→Introduction to tutorial study groups

*AVID course fulfills the Public Speaking requirement

10th Grade

→Community involvement and leadership
→Career Pathways
→Refinement of tutorial study groups

11th Grade

12th Grade

→Applying to college, financial aid, and scholarships
