AVID
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college and career readiness program. The program focuses on developing critical thinking, organization, and leadership skills, to help students achieve their academic and career goals.

AVID Candidates
A typical AVID candidate meets the following criteria:
- Highly motivated academically as demonstrated through attendance, behavior, grade point average, and an 8th grade team recommendation

May belong to an ethnic group who is underrepresented at the post-secondary level and/or first generation college bound student

Desire to improve executive functioning skills required for college and career readiness

MAP/ISAT scores in 40-70 percentile
Why AVID?

Academic Success
AVID students receive support from faculty and college tutors, as they advance academically in honors/AP classes.

College and Career Readiness
AVID offers field trips for students to explore colleges and universities, and learn about the college application process.

Community Building
The AVID curriculum includes team-building activities that help students develop their collaboration skills.

Leadership
One of the AVID program's main focus areas is to help students build their confidence as leaders in their school and community.

AVID Course Overview and Application
AVID is a 4-year elective program. Courses focus on developing skills in:
- Writing and reading
- Inquiry and collaboration
- Organization
- Leadership and community
The program also provides students with opportunities to visit colleges and explore careers.
